Match notes :
NCCA youth won the toss and chose to bat on a wet wicket. Amar and Vibhav started cautiously and Amar fell to Barry's inswing. Chandrasekhar joined Vibhav and both took their time, played late to cover for swing and frustrated the Indus pacers. Last ball before first break, Chandrasekhar was given out caught behind with the bat hitting the pitch. Then started a very fruitful partnership between Deval and Vibhav. Deval started to hit the boundaries and Vibhav played correct as ever, the score moved to 140+. Deval got out to a mishit as he tried to push the scoring rate along - a very good inning. Keshav joined Vibhav and they ran well between wickets. Vibhav holed out to mid-on trying to push up the scoring for a well made 45. Sunil joined Keshav and with a change of bat, Sunil cleared the square leg play area with a 6. Sunnyvale umpire completely out of position, standing 6 feet behind the stumps ruled Keshav run out, even though it appeared he had made it. Keshav made good use of this chance to play up the order. Siddanth walked in next, played across the line to Pavan and was bowled. Sushant went in next and was run out to a direct hit from Anwar from the mid-wicket fence!. Sunil then fell trying to make some quick runs for a well made 21. Srijith and Amar R played out the last overs picking singles. Sunil yelled something in Malayalam to Srijith, which resulted in a perfectly timed shot off Pavan's last ball and sent it sailing over mid-wicket for a SIX!. This ended NCCA Youth inning on a real high and we thought we had batted well against a good bowling attack. Deval amd Amar S shared the new ball for Youth. Deval could not get it to swing from his end, while Amar found plenty of inswing. The openers were in no mood to play defense as we spilled couple of catches off Deval. Amar continued to impress, cut down in pace and an inswinger got through opener Srini. The new batsman Prem played himself in, as Barry punished every bad ball to a 4 or 6 and we dished out a lot of bad ones. Vibhav was brought in, but bowled too short. Barry cover drove boundaries although Srijith bowled off stump line. Sidhanth and Sunil came on and were treated with sixes. Anything on the middle or leg stump line was put away. Amar bowled a very good first over with both batsmen puzzled as leg breaks and googlies went past their bats. However Amar didnt find the length in his second over. Keshav bowled well and we missed one close stumping and two catches off his bowling. With the margin of error to Barry being very small, he went for boundaries as well on short of a length balls. Bobby bowled one over thanks to Indus, seems to bowl both leg breaks and off breaks and as a result control was missing. Shivane bowled a nice over of off-spin, very much like in practice. There were many injuries. Amar Risbud came in with a blister and was bleeding. Sushant got a swollen thumb fielding and could not bowl. Vibhav stepped on a pot hole and hurt his knee. Sunil hurt his finger as did Keshav. Ismail was a non starter for the game - I suggest Youth dont practice on Fridays. Overall we didnt bowl well and a decent target of 175 was achieved easily. Must concede - Barry and Prem batted very well. I see a trend here. Need breakthroughs in the first 15 overs, when we get 2-3 wickets, we fight and also put a lot of pressure on the opposition. A few games (Sunnyvale-II) come to mind were similar, one opener comes out aggressively and puts away the game. As usual, fielding and catching must improve. Bobby was an energetic self as 12th man and took his job seriously and was a lone voice heard from the boundary as we fielded.
